Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement stated, "We will ban the Awami League no matter what."
He said, "The interim government must ban the Awami League legally as soon as possible. I swear by the body of Kashem, his blood is on us. We will ban the Awami League no matter what."
He made this vow during the funeral prayer of martyr Abul Kashem at the Central Shaheed Minar at 9 PM on Wednesday.
Abul Kassem, who was injured in an attack by fascists Awami League activists on students in Gazipur, passed away at 3 PM on Wednesday while receiving treatment in the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Hasnat Abdullah said, "We are urging the interim government, what else do you need to ban the Awami League? For over four decades, people's rights have been violated. Enforced disappearances, murders, killings, rapes, and indiscriminate killings have been part of the Awami League's calendar."
He further added, "Even six months later, our July Revolution soldiers were killed at the hands of Awami League associates. This will be established as our connective failure. We, as pro-democracy and anti-fascist political parties, have failed to ban the Awami League through legal processes until now. We see that the Awami League has already legitimized crime."
At this time, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement held a coffin procession to mourn the death of Abul Kashem, who had been injured in the attack by Awami League activists on students in Gazipur.
At 9:30 PM on Wednesday, the organization set off from Central Shaheed Minar towards Shahbagh with the coffin. During the procession, participants chanted slogans demanding the trial and ban of the Awami League.
The slogans included: "My brother’s blood, we won’t let it go in vain," "Down with Mujibism, Long live Revolution," "Awami League has no place here," "Ban the Awami League, must be done, must be done," and "Direct action against the Awami League."
Before the procession, a prayer for martyr Abul Kashem was held at the Shaheed Minar.
