The interim government has assured a BNP delegation that the 13th parliamentary election will be held by December this year.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement to reporters after a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna on Monday evening.
Earlier, a three-member delegation of BNP-led by Mirza Fakhrul held a meeting with the chief adviser to discuss the country’s contemporary issues, including election.
Salahuddin Ahmed and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, both standing committee members of the party were accompanying Mirza Fakhrul.
Meanwhile, the BNP is concerned about whether the 13th parliamentary election will be delayed due to the ongoing political turmoil triggered by nationwide vandalism following the statement of ousted autocrat Sheikh Hasina.
The BNP delegation conveyed the matter of concern to the chief adviser during the meeting and discussed about the roadmap of the upcoming national election during meeting.
Earlier on Friday, BNP held a meeting of the party’s national standing committee to discuss the country’s ongoing political situation and emphasized the urgency of meeting the chief adviser to address the matter.
