No decision has been made yet on the formation of a political party or resignation from government, said Md Nahid Islam, advisor to the interim government.
He said this in response to a question from journalists after a program at the Information Building on Thursday.
After the fall of the Awami League government in the July uprising, the interim government was formed under the leadership of Professor Muhammad Yunus. Three people were included as student representatives in the advisory council. A national citizen committee was also formed with student representatives. After that, the process of forming a new political party together with the anti-discrimination student movement and the Nagorik Committee began.
Quoting a national daily, it was reported from Thursday morning, "The students are forming a new party by February 15. Nahid Islam, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement and advisor to the interim government, is going to be the member secretary of that party."
The report also claimed that Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud are going to resign to join a political party."
When drawn to this issue, advisor Nahid said, "No decision has been made yet on the formation of a political party or resignation. The media should be more responsible in spreading such news.”
The information advisor also commented that the Awami League should not have the opportunity to do politics.
He said, “Awami League should not have the opportunity to do politics. Those who were not involved in terrorist activities can get a general amnesty. The government will be strict if they try to become active as allies of fascism by taking advantage of any movement. BNP is delaying the issue of the July coup declaration, they are asking for more time.”
The advisor also claimed that some journalists are spreading misinformation about the freedom of the media. He said, “Misinformation and disinformation are being spread internationally which is not acceptable.”
