Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, has blamed the ousted dictator Sheikh Hasina for using and controlling the country’s mass media during her last 15 years of administration.
“We feel urgency to ensure reform in the media to get rid of the situation,” Shafiqul Alam said while addressing a programme held at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Friday.
Hasina-led management had possessed the ability to control all the media in Bangladesh, he said, adding that a phone call from DGFI, NSI and ministers was enough to control the media.
He also called upon the newspaper owners to ensure logical wages for the journalists to help them perform their duties smoothly.
Additionally, he emphasised the importance of upholding the dignity of journalists.
About the trial process of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), he said there was no justice in the court, it was a unfair trial.
