Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim Pir Saheb Charmonai said, “We, along with other political parties, want PR system (proportional representation) elections in the next election. BNP does not want PR system elections. The party thinks that they will not be able to come to power if they do election in this system. BNP's idea is wrong. If elections are held in the proportional representation system, it will be good for all parties.”
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the city conference of Islami Chhatra Andolan Bangladesh held at Jamia Karimiya Complex in Cumilla city on Monday afternoon.
He also said, “Some aprties in the country want to come to power by cheating and fooling us. In the history of 53 years after independence, a self-interested group has repeatedly used us as a ladder and came to power. They have ascended to the power by using Islamic parties as weeds. Now is the time for that change, for everyone to work together to build a new Bangladesh.”
Charmonai Pir said after the departure of the Awami League, the leaders and activists of the Islamic Movement, along with the common people, have guarded the temples and houses of the minorities. The leaders and activists of another political party have indulged in looting.
Imran Hossain Noor, assistant secretary general of the Islamic Chhatra Andolon Bangladesh, delivered the keynote address at the conference presided over by Muhammad Rabiul Islam Miyaji. Alhaj Selim Mahmud, Cumilla divisional organizing secretary of the Islami Andolon Bangladesh, among others, delivered the special guest address.
