Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain said Dhaka has not yet received any official response from India on the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said this in response to questions from journalists after an annual general meeting organized by the Belab Thana Samiti in Purbachal of the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a weekly briefing on Friday that he had informed Bangladesh about the extradition of Sheikh Hasina a week ago. There is nothing much to say beyond that acknowledgement.
Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power on August 5 in the face of a mass uprising. She fled to India that day. She has been there since then.
The International Crimes Tribunal has charged Sheikh Hasina with crimes against humanity, including murder during the mass uprising, disappearances and crossfires in the last 16 years, along with the Peelkhana massacre, and the killings at the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Square in Motijheel. Cases are ongoing against Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet members, and many others, including the heads of various forces.
Dhaka sent a diplomatic note to Delhi on December 23, seeking the return of Sheikh Hasina for the trial process.
