The investigation committee has not found any individual involvement or evidence of sabotage in the secretariat fire. The fire was started by a loose electrical connection, said the head of the investigation committee and senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Gani.
Nasimul Gani gave this information after submitting the initial investigation report of the fire incident to the chief advisor on Tuesday evening.
Nasimul Gani said, “The fire started from a loose connection in the secretariat. No individual involvement was found in it. No documents were burnt in the incident. Neither were they damaged. Also, the damaged building will not have to be demolished.”
At the same time, investigation committee member Brigadier General Mahbub Hasan said, “No explosives were found on the burnt floors. A search was conducted with a dog squad. The samples obtained from the Fire Service also did not contain any explosive-element.”
In the briefing, Fire Service director general Brigadier General Muhammad Zahed Kamal said, “There was a delay in extinguishing the fire as there was a fire in the corridor, and we had to cut it to enter because there was a collapsible gate. The fire spread more due to the interior design. There was not enough water to tackle the situation.”
Incidentally, a fire broke out in Building 7 of the Secretariat on Wednesday night. 19 units of the Fire Service brought the fire under control after six hours of continuous efforts.
