A total of 48 people, suspected to be leaders and activists of Awami League, have been arrested in Gazipur on the fourth day of ongoing 'Operation Devil Hunt.'
The latest drive brought to 309 the number of people so far arrested from both Gazipur city and the district.
Of them, 80, 100, and 81 persons were arrested on the first, second and third day respectively.
According to police, Tuesday night's arrests included eight people from five police stations in Gazipur district and 40 from the metropolitan area.
Deputy Commissioner of City Special Branch Alamgir Hossain said they arrested 40 accused from different areas under the city overnight.
A total of 188 people were arrested from the city over the past four days, he said.
Gazipur Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Md Jaber Sadeque also confirmed the number of arrestees in the district with eight people on the fourth day.
Legal procedures against the arrestees were underway, said the police super.
