Fifteen Bangladeshi nationals returned home via the Benapole check post on Friday night after serving two years in an Indian prison, reports UNB.
The individuals, hailing from Narail, Khulna, and Satkhira districts, were handed over to Bangladesh's immigration authorities by Indian officials. According to Ibrahim Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Immigration Police, the group had entered India illegally over two years ago in search of employment, facilitated by local brokers.
Mumbai police arrested them for unauthorized entry, and they were sentenced to two years in prison by an Indian court. Upon completing their sentences, Indian authorities transferred them to Bangladeshi immigration officials at Benapole around 10:30 PM on Friday.
Following formalities, the returnees were handed over to a representative from a human rights organization in Jashore, which will assist in reuniting them with their families.
This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by those seeking work abroad without proper documentation and the risks associated with illegal migration.
