A Bangladeshi cattle lifter was gunned down allegedly by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the Panchagarh border on Friday morning.
The deceased is Anwar Hossain (36), son of Rafiqul Islam, of Debangarh, under the Debnagar union of the district's Tetulia upazila.
According to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), some villagers, including Anwar, allegedly trespassed into India through Haribhasa Union early Friday. The BSS gunned down Anwar near the main pillar 751.
The BSF claimed that when the alleged smugglers tried to attack them with weapons, forcing them to retaliate by firing. Anwar died on the spot.
