The students of Government Titumir College, after a day-long road and railway blockade in the capital's Mohakhali, took the streets again, taking a two-hour break.
They are determined about continuing the movement demanding university declaration.
They once again stood in front of the college on the Mohakhali-Gulshan road and demanded to convert the college into a university at 6pm on Monday. Traffic stopped on both sides of the road during their blockade.
They claimed that after the evening, the officials of the ministry moved from their previous position, and so that they came down on the roads again. Students say that 12 of their representatives have started a hunger strike in the ministry.
Russel Sarwar, OC of Banani police station, said, “Once again, students have taken position in front of the college. As a result, traffic is blocked on both sides. We are going to the spot after receiving the information.”
Habibur Rahman, a third-year student of English Department 2020-21 session, said, "After the agitation in the morning, 12 of our representatives went to the Ministry of Education. There they were assured to form a commission to transform Titumir College into a university within three days. However, the ministry officials withdrew from that position later in the evening. They say the committee will not be formed.
"12 of our representatives have started a hunger strike in the ministry. We blocked the road after evening. The blockade will continue until a commission is formed to convert Titumir College into a university," he added.
