The United Kingdom is interested about national elections of Bangladesh. The country wants to know how it can help the interim government in this regard. And it has been said from the government that the current interim government wants to leave after creating a fair democratic environment. However, the government is still not sure when the elections will be possible.
British Under Secretary for Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS) Catherine West held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain on Sunday. The adviser said this while talking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the afternoon after the meeting.
When asked if there was any discussion with the British Under Secretary about the election, he said, "If I say that they have no interest in the election, then it will not be correct. They (UK) are keen to cooperate with us. They want to know how they can help us. I said, ‘none of us have any political intentions here.’”
Touhid Hossain said, “We want to transfer our responsibilities by creating a fair democratic environment. That is our goal, as long as it takes. But we do not know clearly when the election will be possible. Many commissions are working at present. Once we get their report, we will know how soon we will actually be able to complete the necessary reform process.”
