The Department of Immigration & Passports has suspended the passport applications of former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and her husband Syed Ishtiaq Hossain.
The decision follows the adjournment of Shirin Sharmin’s application due to her involvement in a murder case and a plea of absconding.
Several officials from the The Department of Immigration & Passports confirmed the suspension of the passport applications on Sunday.
However, Deputy Director of the Dhaka Divisional Passport Office, Ismail Hossain, stated, "There has been no development regarding his passport. That's all I can say. If you want to know more, you have to talk to the head office of the department."
Earlier, on November 5, reports emerged under the headline "Shirin is getting passport at home", revealing that Shirin Sharmin’s fingerprints, photographs, and iris scans had been collected under special arrangements, despite her being accused in a murder case.
Notably, on August 22, the interim government revoked all diplomatic (red) passports issued to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, as well as to ministers, advisers, and members of parliament (MPs).
