Students of Mohammadpur Residential School and College in Dhaka have blocked Mirpur Road in front of their institution, demanding that admissions be based on merit.
According to police, the protest began around 10:30 am when students, after breaking open the school’s entrance gate, took to the streets, causing significant traffic congestion on both sides of Mirpur Road.
Ali Iftekhar Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Model Police Station, confirmed that efforts were underway to persuade the students to disperse and resolve the situation. As of 11:10 am, the blockade was still in place, with students continuing their protest.
Prior to the blockade, the students had taken to social media to rally support for their cause. The protest was carried out as part of their planned demonstration, demanding that the school’s admission process be strictly based on merit.
The road blockade has caused severe traffic disruptions in the area, with authorities working to restore normalcy.
