Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed said the Awami League government has looted the country’s banks. Most of the banks are on the verge of destruction. It (Awami League) took many projects without feasibility tests.
He made the remarks today (November 16) while speaking at a seminar titled ‘Policy Dialogue on Financial and Economic Reforms in Bangladesh’ in the capital’s Mohakhali.
The adviser said the interim government is working to come out from looting in the banking sector. “We have already discussed with several international organisations including the World Bank and IMF to maintain economic stability. These organisations are interested in providing loans to us. Hope, the situation will improve very soon.”
About Adani’s electricity issue, Salehuddin Ahmed said, “Adani Group has been paid 4,000 to 5,000 crore taka without tax. Is this an agreement? You will be surprised that the previous government didn’t pay $135 million for fertilizer import. We have paid around $2.5 billion without taking dollars from the country’s reserve.”
Mentioning that some decisions taken by the Awami League government are responsible for the country’s economic turmoil, the finance adviser said, efforts are underway to bring back the laundered money. If anyone smuggles money in the future whether from the public or private sector, they will be caught, he warned.
