Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev expressed his country's eagerness to strengthen its ties with Bangladesh and elevate their bilateral relationship to new heights.
He shared this view during a meeting with Banadesh Chief Advisgler Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the COP29 global climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, as per a message received here.
President Ilham Aliyev announced that a high-level Azerbaijani government delegation will visit Bangladesh early next year to sign a comprehensive agreement with Dhaka.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed Azerbaijan's interest in investing in Bangladesh and highlighted the potential for expanding trade, commerce, and international cooperation between the two nations.
He also mentioned that Azerbaijan is exploring the possibility of opening an embassy in Dhaka to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Aliyev praised the student-led revolution that took place in July and August, stating that he had been closely following developments in Bangladesh over the past few months.
He extended his congratulations to Professor Muhammad Yunus for assuming leadership of Bangladesh's interim government, expressing confidence that the country would continue to grow and thrive under his guidance.
"Your task is very challenging. But I know you are the one who can face the challenge," President Aliyev said.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus also emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and Bangladesh.
He suggested that both nations could thrive by boosting bilateral trade, fostering people-to-people exchanges, and enhancing cooperation in major international forums.
Additionally, Prof Yunus highlighted the potential for creating more job opportunities for Bangladeshis in the oil-rich Central Asian countries, furthering economic ties and providing employment prospects for the workforce.
In recent years, hundreds of Bangladeshis have secured employment in Azerbaijan's shipbuilding industry.
President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's successful efforts in combating corruption through the digitalization of its services.
He expressed interest in sharing his country's digitalization experiences with Bangladesh, aiming to support the country's efforts in modernization and transparency.
The meeting was also attended by Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy to the Chief Adviser; Lamiya Morshed, Senior Secretary and Principal Coordinator of SDG Affairs; and M. Amanul Haq, Bangladesh's Ambassador to Turkey and Azerbaijan.
