Limon Hossain, who lost his leg due to a gunshot by some of the members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in 2011, has filed a petition with the International Crimes Tribunal, seeking the disbandment of RAB.
On Tuesday, Limon submitted the petition to the office of the Chief Prosecutor of the Tribunal. He told journalists afterward that he did not receive justice under the "fascist Sheikh Hasina government" and is now approaching the tribunal with the hope of attaining justice.
According to reports, Limon has filed charges in the International Crimes Tribunal against nine individuals, including former military adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique and former RAB officer Ziaul Ahsan, in connection with the incident in which he lost his leg.
On March 23, 2011, in Jamaddarhat of Rajapur Upazila in Jhalakathi district, Limon was shot when RAB was conducting a raid in that area. At the time, he was only 16 years old. Limon later informed journalists that RAB personnel had detained him and shot him in the leg at close range. After initial treatment at a local hospital, he was transferred to a hospital in Dhaka, where doctors ultimately had to amputate his left leg.
