Police on Saturday night arrested 10 individuals in Dhaka on charges of implementing orders from former prime minister Sheikh Hasina given in an audio clip which went viral recently.
A large amount of evidence was also recovered from them during the arrest, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said in a statement which was signed by DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
“Recently, in a viral audio clip shared across various social media platforms, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina instructed her party leaders and activists to carry placards featuring the newly elected US President Donald Trump and the American flag during rallies and processions.
“The directive was to use these placards as shields when necessary and to capture footage of any vandalism of the placards in an effort to destabilize the country. This plot is part of a broader attempt to damage the strong relationship between the United States and Bangladesh,” According to the DMP statement.
DC Talebur Rahman also mentioned that this conspiracy was part of an attempt to disrupt the strong relationship between Bangladesh and its friendly nation, the United States.
He further stated that, based on intelligence reports, police carried out raids in various areas of Dhaka city on Saturday and arrested 10 members of a conspiratorial group. During the operation, a large quantity of provocative posters, placards with pictures, and cash were recovered from their possession.
He added that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is actively working to thwart any plots by groups conspiring against the state.
DC Talebur Rahman further mentioned that efforts to arrest those responsible for instigating, funding, and being involved in these illegal activities are ongoing.
