Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur on Friday said the collaborators of the fascist Awami League will not get any space in the politics of Bangladesh.
"There’s no place for fascism in this Bangladesh. Those who were collaborators of the Awami League will have no place in this country," he said while addressing a rally at Rangpur Zilla Parishad ground.
Nur, also former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union, proposed the introduction of the proportional representation system in elections, bicameral parliament and four-year tenure for parliament. Pointing to the Jatiya Party, he said, "Those who helped establish fascism in the country being the collaborators of Awami League have made indecent comments about the leaders of the Gono Odhikar Parishad in Rangpur. We strongly condemn this."
The Gono Odhikar Parishad chief said the blood of students, which stained the soil of this country, has yet to wither away. “Those who try to rehabilitate Awami League will have to face students and mass people."
Speaking about their plans, he said, "We want to develop this backward Rangpur. Even after 53 years of independence, the suffering of the people of this region has yet to be addressed. No government has been able to assuage their suffering."
