Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested actress and former E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) president Shomi Kaiser from a house at Sector-4 in Dhaka’s Uttara on early Wednesday.
The arrest took place during a raid around 12:30am, according to Uttara Division Police Deputy Commissioner Rownok Jahan.
She is expected to be produced before the court today.
The arrest was followed by a case filed on October 9 by BNP activist Syed Hasan Mahmud against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Shomi Kaiser, folk singer and former MP Momtaz Begum, former minister Tarana Halim, and 13 others.
The case, filed with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain, accuses them of attempting to kill the plaintiff in June 2022.
“Actress Shomi Kaiser is an FIR-listed accused. She will be shown arrested in the case,” said Rownok Jahan.
Shomi Kaiser, the daughter of renowned Bangladeshi writer and novelist Shahidullah Kaiser and writer and former Awami League lawmaker Panna Kaiser, was arrested following a tip-off.
The raid was conducted on road no 6 of sector 4 at Uttara, according to the deputy commissioner.
