Newly appointed Ambassador of Sweden to Bangladesh Nicolas Weeks paid introductory courtesy call on Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, reports BSS.
During the meeting, the Foreign Secretary congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and thanked Sweden for their support to the Interim Government, said a foreign ministry press release.
He highlighted Bangladesh’s principled position in support of peace amid the complex dynamics of the present world.
The Foreign Secretary emphasized on the deep-rooted and valuable relationship between Bangladesh and Sweden, recognizing the comprehensive cooperation that has flourished over the years.
The ambassador expressed Sweden’s commitment to support Bangladesh in the areas of green transition, and artificial intelligence, among others.
He reiterated Sweden’s eagerness to enhance collaboration in sustainable development, as well as the Swedish business presence in Bangladesh.
The Foreign Secretary acknowledged the Swedish humanitarian assistance for Rohingyas and stressed on the need for their early, voluntary and sustainable repatriation to their homeland.
Both sides shared optimism about the future of bilateral relations, and increased collaboration in different areas through political consultation in the coming years.
The Foreign Secretary assured the Ambassador of full cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.
