Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuyain announced that students will take on traffic police duties for four hours each day on a part-time basis.
He made this announcement during a press conference in his ministry's conference room at the Secretariat on Wednesday, ahead of the celebration of National Youth Day on November 1.
Asif Mahmud said, "The target is to recruit 700 students. Initially, 300 to 400 will be taken for traffic control. They will work at key points in the capital. Traffic congestion is highest in the morning and afternoon, so they will work for four hours. Once the students complete their studies, if they are interested in continuing, the possibility of permanent positions will be considered."
The advisor added, "Full-time employment would require greater government expenditure. By offering part-time positions, students can also earn an income. In many developed countries, students are given opportunities to engage in various government roles."
