Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded immediate resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin for the sake of holding of the next general election after necessary reforms in the state mechanism.
Prof Abdul Halim, assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, made the demand while addressing a programme held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium in Dhaka on Saturday.
“We hope that the interim government will arrange the next general election as soon as possible after bringing reforms to the important issues,” said the Jamaat leader.
Citing the 15 years of barbarism of the ousted Awami League-led government, Halim said a total of 11 top leaders of his party were killed and 30 were victims of crossfire while one lakh leaders and activists were implicated in fake and politically motivated cases during the period.
Underscoring the need for forging a national unity, he said the vested group is still engaged in hatching a conspiracy to take the country in their absolute control again but the evil effort must be thwarted collectively.
