Another 65 Bangladeshi expatriates will return to Dhaka from Lebanon in the second phase as the war-torn nation is not a safe place for anybody. In the third phase, 31 Bangladeshis are scheduled to return on Thursday.
These Bangladeshis will arrive at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport by air on Wednesday evening. They will first reach Jeddah from Lebanon and then fly back to Dhaka on a Saudi Airlines flight.
Due to the current war situation in Lebanon, Bangladeshi expatriates are in a state of panic. Many of them are seeking shelter in safe places. The government has taken initiatives to bring them back. As part of this effort, 65 Bangladeshis are returning in the second phase.
In the first phase, 54 Bangladeshi expatriates returned to the country on October 21. In the third phase, another 31 Bangladeshis are set to return on October 24.
Md. Touhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Adviser, has stated that between 70,000 to 100,000 Bangladeshis are currently in Lebanon. Almost 1,800 have registered to return home. Among those who registered, only 167 have legal documents, while 1,623 do not possess the necessary documents. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is trying to bring back 200 individuals on a chartered flight.
For others, the government is arranging flights, and the adviser mentioned that approximately 50 people can return each day.
