Two advisers of the interim government held a “closed-door” meeting with Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed at his Supreme Court (SC) office on Tuesday, reports the Daily Sun.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul and ICT Adviser Nahid Islam joined the half-hour meeting with the chief justice starting around 2:00pm, said SC sources.
The meeting was held at a time when there is speculation about the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin following his recent statement about the resignation of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has already said the president had breached his oath by telling lies about Hasina’s resignation.
Students in different areas across the country also started a movement from Tuesday demanding the immediate resignation of the president.
Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday said the government agrees that by lying about the resignation of Hasina, the president violated his oath.
He, however, said there was no initiative of the government to remove the president.
