Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that 187 absconded policemen who did not join the work will be considered terrorists, and they will be arrested on sight.
He made the comment while responding to queries from journalists after visiting the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) office in Rajshahi on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the home adviser said that they (the absconding policemen) will be arrested on sight and will be prosecuted as criminals.
In response to another query, Jahangir Alam said that action will be taken to identify those who have been appointed in the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) on other grounds than merit in the last 15 years.
The home adviser also said that the morale of the police is improving and it will take some more time to bring the law and order situation under complete control.
He said, “A lot has changed from the situation that existed after 5 August. They (policemen) were upset and traumatised. I don’t have anything that I can do within two, three, or four days. But the situation is slowly improving.”
Regarding the mechanisation and fertiliser corruption in the agriculture sector, Jahangir Alam, also the adviser for agriculture, said, “Not only mechanisation in the agriculture sector, but there has been a lot of corruption in this sector. We are making an inquiry into these issues, and action is being taken against those found guilty.”
