BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia returned to her residence in the capital’s Gulshan on Tuesday afternoon after undergoing 10 days of medical treatment at Evercare Hospital.
Earlier, the former prime minister’s personal physician AZM Jahid Hossain and BNP media wing member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed her release from hospital.
Khaleda’s follow-up treatment would continue at her home, BNP officials claimed.
The 78-year-old politician is suffering from arthritis and diabetes as well as complications in the heart, kidney, liver and lungs.
She was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 22 June due to a sudden deterioration of health conditions, and a pacemaker was installed on her heart on 25 June. At present, BNP is holding a three-day protest movement demanding permission for her treatment abroad.
Khaleda Zia has been sentenced to 17 years in prison in two corruption cases. The government later issued an executive order allowing her release on 25 March 2020 for receiving medical treatment within the country.
