The public rally of the ruling Awami League, marking its 75th founding anniversary, is underway at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Saturday.
The meeting began in front of the party’s central office where thousands of leaders and activists of its different front and associate bodies participated in processions.
Humayan Kabir, general secretary of Dhaka City Awami League’s north unit, is now moderating the meeting, with Abu Ahmad Mannafi, president of the unit, in the chair.
The meeting was scheduled to begin around 3:00 pm but leaders and activists gathered at the meeting place as early as 2:00 pm.
Awami League is organising a major programme in the capital for the first time since the last national elections held on 7 January.
