The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into the corruption allegations leveled at National Bureau of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman, an ACC official told reporters Sunday, reports Daily Sun.
ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin said a three-member investigation body led by a deputy director has been formed.
The decision to form the team was taken on 4 June after a social media post by Matiur’s son of purchasing a Tk12 lakh goat raised serious suspicions over the source of his wealth.
In the wake of the controversy, Matiur has been transferred to Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Finance Ministry from his post in the NBR, but an ACC probe would still continue into the allegations of amassing illegal assets and money laundering.
Later on Sunday, Sonali Bank Chairman Ziaul Hasan Siddiqui revealed that Matiur has also been barred from attending the bank's board meetings on government orders, effectively removing him from the board.
The government appointed Matiur as one of the bank's directors in February 2022 for three years.
