The High Court (HC) on Tuesday asked authorities concerned to submit a list of Rohingyas who made their place in the Bangladesh voter list, BSS reports.
A High Court division bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque passed the order after holding a hearing on a supplementary petition filed in this regard.
The court ordered the Election Commission (EC), secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar to submit the list within August 8.
Advocate Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah moved the plea before the court, while Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta stood for the state.
According to the case documents, it was learned that around 40 Rohingyas have allegedly taken Bangladesh national identity cards (NID) after making their place in the voter list of Eidgaon union of Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.
A petition was filed recently to stay the Union Parishad election for the concerned union as long as the voter list is not updated.
The High Court after taking the plea into cognizance asked authorities concerned on April 24 for a list of Rohingyas who made their place in the voter list in Cox's Bazar.
It has also ordered to remove the name of 38 Rohingyas from voter list in Eidgaon union of Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila.
The supplementary petition was filed later, pleading for court's direction for the list of Rohingyas who made their place in the voter list across the country.
