The Gopalganj district authorities on Monday officially seized control of ex-IGP Benazir Ahmed’s Savanna Eco Resort and Natural Park in the district, and would reopen the park soon.
As per court orders, the district administrations in Gopalganj and Madaripur would jointly operate the 615-bigha resort-cum-eco park after it reopens.
Md Mashiur Rahman, deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) Gopalganj unit, hung up a crock notice on the park’s main entrance on Monday.
A Dhaka court has ordered seizure of the park in a case filed by ACC over allegations of Benazir’s widespread corruption involvement during his time in office.
Gopalganj district’s Deputy Administrator Quazi Mahbubul Alam visited the park Monday.
“What happened today is not only an official seizure. Rather, it would also facilitate the park’s reopening through proper maintenance. The park contains many rides, cottages, pond, and fruit trees. Plans would be taken for making these usable for the entertainment of general people,” Mahbubul Alam told reporters following his tour of the park.
