Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan said that the main problem of the judicial system of the country is the burden of 4 million cases.
“To overcome this situation we are focusing on round-breaking technological innovation systems and trying to solve the complexities of case settlement,” he said.
The Chief Justice said these during the first session of the two-day international conference titled International Conference on Judiciary Across the Borders organized by the Bangladesh Supreme Court at the Supreme Court Auditorium on Satirday.
Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan presided over the first session of the international conference. He inaugurated the conference.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque MP was present as the chief guest in the first session. Justice Lobzang Rinjin Yarge of the High Court of Bhutan was present as a special guest.
The Chief Justice gratefully recalled the history of Bhutan and Nepal recognizing the independence of Bangladesh in the Great War of Liberation in 1971.
About People's Judiciary, the Chief Justice said that the concept of People's Judiciary is a concept which ensures equal representation of all citizens including minorities and protects their rights as per the Constitution.
The Chief Justice pointed out the main problem of the judicial system of Bangladesh and explained the way out of it. He said that the courts of Bangladesh currently are burdened with 4 million cases. To overcome this situation we are focusing on round-breaking technological innovation systems and trying to solve the complexities of case settlement.
The Chief Justice highlighted various initiatives to modernize the judicial system of Bangladesh. Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for allocating land for the establishment of Bangladesh Supreme Court Research Institute in Cox's Bazar.
Also present in the conference were Appellate Division and High Court judges, retired judges, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, Attorney General's office officials, Supreme Court Bar leaders, senior lawyers and Supreme Court Registry officials.
