The administration of Gopalganj district has taken possession of Savanna Eco Resort and Natural Park owned by former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and his family members, complying with a court order in this regard.
Although the resort authorities shut the establishment earlier following allegations of amassing illegal wealth by the former police chief and his family, its operations will continue as per the instructions of the deputy commissioner of Gopalganj from Saturday, reports The Daily Sun.
On Friday evening, officials from the district administration and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) took position at the park and later took charge. Around 11:30pm, the authorities made an announcement through speakers over the matter.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) in Gopalganj Bably Shabnam, ACC Deputy Director (Gopalganj) Md Moshiur Rahman, Assistant Director Sohrab Hossain Sohel, Assistant Director (Madaripur) Md Saidur Rahman, and Senior Fisheries Officer of Gopalganj Sadar upazila Sohel Md Zillur Rahman Regan were present among others.
Benazir built the resort on 621 bighas of land at Bairagitol village under Sahapur union in Gopalganj Sadar upazila while serving as the director general of the Rapid Action Battalion from 2015 to 2020 and the IGP from 2020 to 2022.
Benazir’s wife Zeeshan Mirza is the designated chairperson while elder daughter Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir is the managing director and younger Tahseen Raisa Binte Benazir is a director of Savanna Eco Resort.
