Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan on Monday indicated that a travel ban might be sought for former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.
He made the remarks while talking to journalists at the Supreme Court premises.
In response to a question, the ACC counsel said the investigation officer would seek a travel ban to the court for Benazir Ahmed if necessary.
This development follows a court order issued on Sunday, which mandated the confiscation of assets associated with Benazir Ahmed and his family members.
The assets in question include 115 documents of 91 acres of land and four flats located in Dhaka's Gulshan area.
The court also ordered the freezing of shares, BO accounts and savings certificates held in various companies under their names.
Earlier on Thursday, a Dhaka court ordered the confiscation of Benazir Ahmed’s properties in Gopalganj and Cox’s Bazar.
It also directed the freezing of 33 accounts responsible for the transaction of money by Benazir Ahmed and his family members.
Benazir Ahmed served as the IGP from April 15, 2020, to September 30, 2022.
Before his retirement as IGP, he held significant positions, including Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Benazir’s name surfaced in connection with the sanctions imposed by the United States in December 2021 against RAB and several of its officials, both former and current, over allegations of human rights violations.
