The District Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in a raid held a man with 15 gold bars weighing 150 'tolas' worth about Taka 1.27 crore from Kamarpara Dhaka Bus Stand in Rangpur city on Wednesday, reports UNB.
"Based on secret information, a special DNC team searched a night coach after its arrival there from Dhaka and arrested the man with the gold bars at 8:45 am," said Additional Director of District DNC and its Divisional Deputy Director (In-charge) Md. Ali Aslam Hossain.
The detainee was identified as Foysal Hossain, 38, son of late Abul Hossain of village Deobhog Mridhabari in Munshiganj Sadar upazila.
"Later, we handed over the arrested person with the seized gold bars to Kotwali police station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police for taking further legal actions against him," Ali Aslam Hossain said.
"The process of filing a case against the detainee with Kotwali police station was in progress," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md. Abu Maruf Hossain told BSS at 3 pm.
