State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the government doesn’t want to hike the prices of electricity before the next Parliament elections.
He came up with the observation at a view-exchange meeting at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital on Monday.
The state minister said the government has already proposed the NBR to reduce tax in the power sector. The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources hopes to see the reflection of the proposal in the upcoming budget.
Nasrul also called upon the countrymen to become patient until the power and fuel situation is normal.
Regarding subsidies by the government, the state minister said the government will give subsidies in essential sectors instead of mass subsidies.
He said that the government has been working to increase producing solar power in the country gradually.
