Election Commissioner Md Alamgir on Sunday promised to hold all next elections free and fair as the recently held Gazipur City Corporation elections.
He made the assurance while answering the questions of journalists at his office in the capital’s Agargaon.
About the new US visa policy commissioner Alamgir said, “We don’t know about the new US visa policy. There is no relation between Gazipur polls and visa policy. The election commission will take action against whoever violates the law of the commission.”
Mentioning that fair polls in Gazipur City become blessings for all stakeholders including the government, he said, “It is not important what foreigners want. The election commission is working as per the Constitution and law. The election commission is a free and independent organization. The government never had given pressure to it.”
The commissioner also said those who criticize, they always do it. The election commission will ensure a level-playing field for candidates and parties. Voters also can cast their franchises freely.
