Ten dead bodies of fishermen recovered from a trawler in Cox's Bazar have been identified, reports UNB.
Sources from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and local public representatives revealed that the deceased fishermen were from Chakria and Maheshkhali upazilas of the district.
Among them were Shamsul Alam, 23; Saiful Islam, 18; Sawkat Ullah, 18; Osman Gani, 17; Saifullah, 23; Parvez Musharraf, 14; Nurul Kabir, 28; Saiful Islam, 34; Mohammad Shahjahan, 35; and Tarek Zia, 25.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station claimed that the incident was pre-planned.
The decomposing bodies were recovered from the ice storage room of the trawler, he said.
The trawler was caught in the net of another fishing trawler, which subsequently pulled it to Sonadia channel in Maheshkhali.
Police and fire service reached the spot and recovered the bodies from the trawler.
The bodies were then sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
