Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Friday said after which Eid BNP will stage movement, reports BSS.
"We have been hearing for 14 years that BNP will stage demonstrations after Eid, winter, summer, Eid-ul-Azha and after closure of the schools. People identified those statements of Mirza Fakhrul as absurd. My question is after which Eid they are talking about," he said.
The minister told reporters while replying to a query after returning from Europe on an official tour at his official residence in city's Mintu Road.
Replying to another query over upcoming city corporation polls, Hasan said it is clear that BNP's leaders want to participate in the polls though the party is telling to boycott the elections. The leaders of BNP had taken part in other polls independently, he added.
Now, he said, the BNP leaders are running for the city polls and discussions are being held centering the polls. "I think many leaders of the party (BNP) would take part in the polls wearing masks. We want that they to take part in the elections without masks," said Hasan.
He said the party (BNP) would not be able to prevent their leaders from participating in polls, if BNP doesn't participate in the upcoming general elections.
The minister said the Election Commission (EC) will organise the polls and the government will provide all out cooperation to hold a free, fair and neutral elections. All observers will observe the polls, he added.
"We hope that the BNP will take part in the polls," he said.
Replying to another query over his recent Europe tour, the minister said two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) were signed with BritishPathe and Red Orange, to collect audio-visual footages of the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Discussions were also held with different organizations including Associated Press to collect footages which will enrich the history, said Hasan.
Replying to a query over sharing a news in the facebook page of the US Embassy in Dhaka on RAB issue and the statement of the US State Department, the minister said it is clear from the statement of the US State Department that they are often out of touch with the activities of the US embassy and meetings with different people and raised question on various issues.
He said someone in the embassy shared it and the opposition party instigated it. It is clear through the incident that the opposition party often visits the embassy at night to incite them, said Hasan.
