Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal claimed that Zila Parishad polls ended on Monday peacefully across the country as no incidence of violence was reported during the elections.
"We have observed the polls since its beginning. Elections were held peacefully and no incident of violence was reported during the polls," he said while briefing the reporters at the Election Commission Bhaban after the end of voting.
The voting began at 9:00 am and continued till 2:00 pm without any break.
Voting was held through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) which have been installed at every upazila.
Elected representatives of other local government bodies such as union parishads, municipalities, and upazila parishads cast their votes in the election.
On August 23, the election commission announced the poll schedule for holding zila parishad elections in sixty-one districts.
