Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud alleged that BNP is carrying out extortion across the country in the name of the rally.
He made the allegation while exchanging views with journalists at his secretariat office on Sunday.
Hasan Mahmud claimed that BNP collected money from the businessmen in Chattogram by issuing a threat to them in the name of the rally.
“It (BNP) made a big project of extortion to hold divisional rallies including Mymensingh. I heard that half of the extortion money collected from Chattogram has been sent to Tarique Rahman.”
Replying to a question about obstruction of BNP’s Mymensingh rally, the minister said the then BNP government attacked many Awami League rallies all over the country.
He also thanked two US Congressmen who introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives, urging the US President to recognise the atrocities committed against ethnic Bengalis and Hindus by the Pakistani armed forces in 1971 as genocide.
