Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has directed the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to work neutrally ahead of the 12th parliamentary elections.
He also warned that the election commission will monitor the activities of the top officials of the government at the district level across the country.
The CEC made the directions at a view-exchange meeting with the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police at the Election Commission Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Saturday.
The meeting began at 10:00 am at the auditorium of the Election Commission.
Habibul Awal in his welcome speech said all the DCs and SPs need to understand the importance of forming a new government and local government bodies through elections in a democratic system.
Four other election commissioners, the additional IGP and the senior secretary of the public security division of the home ministry were also present in the meeting.
After the meeting, The CEC briefed journalists at the media centre of the commission.
Kazi Habibul Awal said he told the DCs and SPs that the election commission will play a neutral role during the election.
The meeting also suggested increasing the number of voting booths besides increasing voting centres to ensure a fair election.
