Woman held with 25 bhori gold in Jhenaidah

Detective Branch (DB) of Police detained a woman along with 25 bhori of gold ornaments worth Tk 20 lakh in Jhenaidah on Thursday.

The detainee is Mukta Khatun, wife of Mizanur Rahman hailing from Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla.

Mukta was detained in front of Maulanabad Secondary School at Kala-Laxmipur beside the Jhenaidah-Magura highway.

Mohammad Shahin Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of DB, said acting on a tip-off, they conducted a raid in the area by setting up a check post and arrested the woman along with gold ornaments meant for smuggling to Dhaka from Kaliganj.

She was handed over to Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, added the official.
