Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamum has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Bangladesh Police.
The Home Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday.
Dhananjoy Kumar Das, deputy secretary, Public Security Division under the Home Ministry signed the gazette after getting approval from the President.
Al-Mamun is the 31st IGP of the country.
He will take the charge on September 30 after the retirement of the current police chief Benazir Ahmed, the notification added.
The new IGP joined Bangladesh Police as an assistant superintendent of police in 1982.
He received President Police Medal (PPM) for his outstanding contribution to the police force.
Al-Mamun was born Sullah upazila of Sunamganj on January 12, 1964.
