Bangladesh Bank has directed all banks to halt evening banking activities until further instructions in a bid to save electricity in the country.
The decision was taken in the light of the changes brought by the government in office schedule for power saving, said a circular on Tuesday.
The central bank instructed all banks to provide customer services from 9 am to 3 pm in line with new office hours to save electricity.
Earlier on August 22, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said that office time at government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions has been fixed from 8 am to 3 pm in a bid to save electricity.
The new timings effected from August 24.
