Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the food ministry to import food grains from additional countries including the usual ones to ensure food security in the country, reports UNB.
The PM provided the directive at a cabinet meeting held at her office on Sunday.
The development has been confirmed by the cabinet secretary Khondker Anwarul Islam at a briefing after the meeting.
He said, “We have signed agreements with five countries namely Russia, India, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, to import food grains. The PM has told us to keep some other sources ready so that no complexities arise at the last moment.”
