The announcement made by the spokesperson of the military wing of Hamas has triggered a huge wave of fear among Palestinians regarding the sustainability of the ceasefire deal, reports Al Jazeera.
Israel has not comprehensively adhered to the terms of the agreement. Palestinians said the number of aid trucks that have entered the Gaza Strip is less than what has been promised.
There’s been a complete lack of basic necessities in the Gaza Strip, including fuel and makeshift shelters.
It is a similar situation with the evacuation of the sick and wounded.
Under the terms of the deal, some 50 patients are supposed to evacuate out of the Strip daily, but the number allowed so far is less than that.
Civilians here are afraid of the potential repercussions, as the current deal has offered them partial stability as well as a glimmer of hope regarding the entry of humanitarian supplies.
But in the coming days, they hope to witness a different sort of negotiations and that regional mediators will step in to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire deal through the first phase and into the second.
For the Palestinians, the second phase is more important, simply because the Israeli military is supposed to withdraw from the entire Gaza Strip during that stage, and the reconstruction of the enclave is supposed to begin.
