Egypt's top diplomat informed U.S. Senator Marco Rubio that Arab nations stand united with Palestine in opposing Donald Trump’s plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza and take control of the besieged enclave.
In a statement, Egypt's foreign ministry noted that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry emphasized the urgency of accelerating Gaza's reconstruction while ensuring Palestinians remain in the region.
Shoukry, who arrived in Washington on Sunday, expressed his anticipation of collaborating with the new U.S. administration to achieve "comprehensive and just peace and stability" in the Middle East.
The Palestinian leadership has firmly rejected any notion of Palestinians leaving Gaza, which they regard as integral to an independent state. This stance has been unwavering for generations, and neighboring Arab nations have consistently opposed it since the Gaza war erupted in 2023.
In a statement released Monday, Egypt’s foreign ministry reiterated that the international community must unite to address the "historic injustice" faced by Palestinians and restore their "legitimate and inalienable rights."
Trump’s proposal has sparked widespread global condemnation, with both regional and international leaders warning that such actions would destabilize the region. In excerpts from a Fox News interview on Monday, Trump stated that under his plan, Palestinians would not have the right of return to Gaza.
