President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the European Union's decision to suspend sanctions on Syria, emphasizing the importance of fully lifting them in the future. In a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday, he also underscored the need to maintain the cease-fire in Gaza, the Presidential Communications Directorate said.
Erdogan described the EU’s move as appropriate and reaffirmed Turkiye’s ongoing support for Syria. He and Macron also discussed Turkey-France relations, as well as regional and global developments.
The Turkish president highlighted the benefits of strengthening dialogue between the two countries, particularly in defence cooperation. He also stressed the urgency of preserving the cease-fire between Hamas and Israel and advancing efforts toward a lasting resolution.
