State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller announced the discussions, highlighting Blinken’s commitment to respecting the Venezuelan people's electoral will and advocating for the peaceful restoration of democracy. Blinken also reiterated the U.S.'s call for the release of all political prisoners unjustly detained under President Nicolás Maduro’s regime.
During the conversation, Secretary Blinken praised the resilience of Venezuela’s democratic opposition and the dedication of its citizens to democratic values, despite ongoing repression and adversity.
